Versioning & trash: snapshots and restoring your maps

Nothing gets lost: AI-MindMap protects your work with automatic version snapshots, a local undo history and a trash with 30 days retention.

Version history (snapshots)

Create a snapshot

• Snapshots are created automatically when saving — and before every AI action.
• Create manual snapshots in the version history panel (toolbar → clock icon).

Restore a snapshot

1. Open the version history panel.
2. Select a version from the list.
3. Click "Restore".
4. The map is reset to the selected state.
5. The current state is not lost — it is saved as a snapshot itself.

Version information

• The panel shows the timestamp and creator of each snapshot.
• There is currently no content diff view between two versions — restore an older version if needed; the current state remains available as a snapshot.

Undo / redo (local history)

• Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z: undo the last action (up to 50 steps)
• Ctrl+Y / Cmd+Y or Ctrl+Shift+Z: redo
• The local history applies per browser session and is lost on reload.
• The difference from snapshots: undo is instant, snapshots are stored permanently.

Trash

Delete maps

• In the dashboard: map menu → "Delete" moves the map to the trash.
• Deleted maps stay in the trash for 30 days.

Restore

• Go to Trash in the sidebar.
• Click "Restore" next to the map you want back.
• Only the creator (owner) can restore maps.

Delete permanently

• "Delete permanently" removes a map irrevocably.
• "Empty trash" deletes all entries at once.
• After 30 days, entries are cleaned up automatically.

Offline indicator

• The app detects a lost connection and shows an "Offline" badge in the editor header.
• While you are offline, auto-save cannot run. Keep the tab open: as soon as the connection is back, auto-save stores the current state.
• A full offline mode (working locally without a connection and syncing later) is not supported.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the current state when restoring an old version?

No. The current state is itself saved as a snapshot before restoring. You can switch back at any time.

How long do deleted maps stay in the trash?

Deleted maps stay in the trash for 30 days and are then removed automatically and permanently. Only the creator (owner) can restore a map.

What is the difference between undo and snapshots?

Undo (Ctrl+Z) works instantly and covers up to 50 steps, but only for the current browser session. Snapshots are permanently stored versions that you can restore at any time via the version history.
